Brief biography

Viola John received her Diploma in Architecture from Darmstadt University of Technology (TU Darmstadt), Germany in 2005. For the academic year 2003 to 2004 she was awarded an ERASMUS scholarship to study at Oxford Brookes University in the UK, where she received her Postgraduate Diploma in Energy Efficient Building.
After having successfully finished her Architecture studies, she was employed at the Chair of Design and Energy Efficient Construction (FGee) at TU Darmstadt. During this time she also worked as a freelance energy and sustainability consultant.
2007 to 2012 she worked as a Teaching and Research Assistant at the Chair of Sustainable Construction at ETH Zurich. From 2008 to 2012 she was also enrolled as a doctoral student at the ETH Zurich, where she was awarded the degree of “Dr. sc. ETH Zurich” for her dissertation “Derivation of reliable simplification strategies for the comparative LCA of individual and “typical” newly built Swiss apartment buildings”.
She is currently working as a Senior Research Assistant at the Chair of Sustainable Construction, in the field of sustainable design and life cycle assessment of buildings.
From March till May 2015, Dr. Viola John has been working as invited Visiting Professor in research and teaching at Graz University of Technology (TU Graz) for a period of three months.
